it really as been quite a while since i last posted anything hasn't it?

well, sorry for the delay, but life has been rather hectic, with school, cca and all.....

but i wouldn't go there..... it is not what this blog is about.....

well, now being another of the exam season for us JC peeps, i begin to wonder on what exactly are exams supposed to be?

well, the aims of education for one would be to equip us students with knowledge and necessary life skills to survive in the gruesome, dog-eat-dog world of the adult working industries, yet, is all we are learning really needed in life? especially since most of which we learn (especially in the A'levels) are rather specialiised sectors. for example, if one aspires to be a politician, why would one need to know so much about micro-biology, with all its itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny details in regards to the anatomy of viruses and bacteria and how they function?

on the same note, some others would exclaim to me "HEY! PHYSICS!!! its practical EVERYWHERE!!!"

yea, i agree... its practically everywhere. yet, do we really need to understand the intricate workings of gravity so that it work on us? surely gravity would not make any "mistakes"!!!

and back to the topic at hand, what then about the tests and exams we take so often?

if all we are to do is to learn, to absorb information like a leaf takes in sunlight and then inconsequential tests to see if we understand the concepts or not. why then would we have to compete for marks, to chase the elusive first letter and vowel of the alphabet?

is it because university admission slots are limited? so much so that market demand and supply factors come into play, only thing is that, consumers compete not in purchasing power of $$$ but AAA......

but wait a minute.

for those with an iTunes account, do me a favor and log in to iTunesU. the audio courses uploaded there are mostly free, and supplied under the names of big and respectable Universities! that somehow confuses me.

so now, what is education? a public good? (as in beneficial for the public and the "public good")

or a modified market system whereby grades replace the green-backs?

with that, i am REALLY getting confused....

currently, i am still unable to come up with a suitable conclusion for this issue.

which is also another reason why i took so long to post this new...... post...

i have no conclusion to this. but maybe one day, i would understand this conundrum.

but wadeva. if it doesn't come, maybe it was never meant for me to comprehend.

afterall, not all questions have answers...
